ENTRY BARRIER

Thu Jan 12, 2023

It is very common fact that junior doctors or those who have started their clinical practice recently, often complain that they are not able to build their practice fast. They will have to jump over many hurdles to reach the level of clinical excellence of senior or seasoned practitioners. One such hurdle which every doctor has to face is ‘entry barrier’.

ENTRY BARRIERs are the obstacles which make it extremely difficult for a new clinic / doctor to break into a market. In other words, there are certain factors which prevent the patients to reach us. In order to jump ahead of our competitors, we should first identify what are those entry barriers.
Entry barriers may be looked in two different perspectives. One is the obstacles for us to create an impact in the market space and two, the barrier your prospective patients are having to get an access to you. Though, in effect both these are the two sides of the same coin, dealing with this is inevitable for growth as a practitioner.
Here are some of the common entry barriers:
1. 𝐋𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐨𝐟 𝐚𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 – about your system of treatment, your expertise
2. 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 – too much or too less of competition
3. 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐁𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐫𝐬 – believing in myths like “Doctors doesn’t need to market himself” and waiting for ‘mouth to mouth’ publicity
4. 𝐆𝐞𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐩𝐡𝐲 – your location, not expanding beyond borders, not starting online consultation
5.𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭 𝐝𝐢𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 – not differentiating your clinical practice from other doctors / clinics around you.
Working to find out your entry barriers and overcoming it may actually be the best or easiest way to deal with it. Take action today to identify and plan on how to overcome your entry barriers. Let’s rise to the challenge and learn to empower ourself for success.
